Cash ISA cut to £12,000 scrapped: the £20,000 allowance stays

Scrapped October 28, 2026By WorkblissUpdated November 2, 2026

What’s happening

The cut announced in November 2025, which would have lowered the cash ISA allowance for people under 65 from £20,000 to £12,000 from April 6, 2027, was overturned in the October 28, 2026 Budget. The full £20,000 allowance stays for everyone, and the 2027 to 2028 tax year starts on April 6 with the limit unchanged.

What to do

Correct anything that quotes £12,000: benefits portals, onboarding packs and last year’s financial wellbeing materials. Then use the April pay rise as the moment to talk about saving. Read: Your lowest-paid UK staff get a 3.9% raise in April. Will any of it reach their savings?
