About this session
A percussionist who teaches movement gets the whole team moving to a beat with nothing but their bodies: clapping, stepping, stamping, chest and thigh slaps, and voices. The first hour warms up the body, finds the pulse, teaches four body-percussion patterns and puts the room into a two-part groove that sounds like a band. Longer versions layer patterns, move across the room, set rhythms against each other and build a team piece to perform. It suits eight to a hundred people, and nobody needs to dance or keep time well; the room carries you.
In person it needs a room with space for everyone to stand and move, and a speaker; the percussionist brings a drum, the client provides the room and water. Online, cameras stay on, everyone mutes except the percussionist because of the delay, and people play along at home and unmute in turn for call and response. It is movement for energy and fun, not a fitness class or a drumming course. Everything has a low-impact version done sitting, and anyone with an injury or health condition goes at their own pace and checks with their doctor if unsure.

- Call and response on the drumThe percussionist plays a bar, the room plays it back, the bars get longer and faster, and nobody is left behind
